Team Cake vs Team Pie

Happy Birthday, Frosty ! Happy Thanksgiving, family! I had planned on being in the States at about this time. It's Thanksgiving, I haven't been home in 3 years and also Crew 52 wedding coming up this weekend. But then there were some family issues (since resolved, I...guess??) that made the trip home somewhat unappealing (strike one) then some work issues (strike two) then some holy-shit-airfare-is outrageous issues (strike three). When it became apparent that I wouldn't be able to make it to Oklahoma for Thanksgiving, I started conjuring up plans to drop in on Frosty in Tübingen for his birthday (which is today). Visits during the semester are always tough, though appreciated. I just feel bad for him because I'm a super distracting person to be around. And my visits inevitably occur when he has to do a presentation for class. Sadly, I had to put the kibosh on that idea as well. You see, I got a bit of a promotion at work about a week and a half ago (yea for me!) and

R.A.P. statt E.K.G. - November 2010

This month, I only have one half of the show to post. Zilv and I gave a big on-air shout out to frequent listener (and FB wifey) T.Maz and to my new acquaintance Ulli the cab driver who called the studio to tell us that the first hour (aside from our talking) was mostly inaudible due to technical issues. Although we were aware of this fact and were working to correct it for the first 45 minutes, it's always nice to know that someone is listening and cares enough to phone it in. I was going to edit the audio track so that you could just hear the conversation part of our show -- but I'll just save that for my personal archives. What you probably will gather from my hour (right away, I should add) is that it's basically a roundup of my favorite Curse songs. Last month, Curse said goodbye to rap -- and hello to doing other, non-rap things. I actually read about this minutes before our last show aired, so it's kind of old news actually. The "curse" of doing a m

Drink or Treat

I don't have any childhood memories of Halloween. At least none that would really be considered a "traditional American" Halloween. If I've ever been trick or treating, it must have been before my younger brother and sister were born, which renders it one of those things that I did between the ages of baby and 2 years old and my memory doesn't go back that far. Instead, I have fond memories of my mom picking me up from school so that I wouldn't have to participate in the witchery that is cutting out black cats out of construction paper during elementary school Halloween parties and then later going to the church "Fall Carnival". As a non-denominational, fundamentalist Christian child, I was taught that Halloween was (more or less) invented by Satan and that devil-worshipers wanted to cut my tongue out with razor blades hidden in fun-sized Snickers bars. Despite all that, I always came home with a shit-ton of candy on Halloween. Each kid attendee was
